About Us
Deck Board Calculator exists to make deck takeoffs fast, transparent, and mobile-friendly. Instead of wrestling with spreadsheets, you can enter your deck’s size, pick a board size, set joist spacing, and choose a decking angle—your results update in real time.
What it does
- Real-time estimates: No “calculate” button—results adjust as you type.
- Board sizes: Common options such as 5/4×4, 5/4×6, 2×4, and 2×6.
- Assumptions that match reality: ~3.5″ or ~5.5″ face widths with a default 1/8″ gap for drainage/expansion.
- Joist spacing: 12″, 16″, or 24″ on-center to tune fastener counts.
- Decking angle: 90° or 45°; 45° uses a diagonal factor (≈1.414) to reflect longer runs/offcuts.
- Waste buffer: Adds a standard 5% cut-waste and rounds up for practical ordering.
- Perimeter / picture-frame: Optional perimeter length adds to total linear footage.
- Board lengths: See counts across common 8′, 10′, 12′, 16′, and 20′ lengths to match local stock.
- Fasteners: Estimates screws (two per joist-intersection) or hidden clips (one per intersection).
- Print-ready: Print or save a summary for the yard or supplier visit.
Our philosophy
- Accuracy you can audit. We display the core formulas so you can sanity-check the math.
- Privacy by default. No account required to plan your deck.
- Speed & accessibility. Clean UI, readable typography, and keyboard-friendly controls that work on mid-range phones.
A quick note on estimates
Every project is unique. Verify spans and installation details with manufacturer instructions and your local building code. Adjust waste if you expect complex layouts, herringbone/inlays, or picture-frame borders on multiple sides.
